Michael D. O’Neill

Biography

Michael D. O’Neill earned his B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Colorado in 1985, and his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1989.

Since 1989, Michael has represented his individual and business clients in important fiduciary, probate, trust administration, criminal and civil litigation matters. This varied litigation practice has included successful representation by Michael of his clients in numerous state and federal jury trials and in hundreds of court trials, arbitrations and mediations. Michael has also represented clients in non-litigation matters including fiduciary and estate planning and in business and employment matters, including working as the attorney for the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) with his father, Joseph T. O’Neill for over 30 years.

Michael began his legal practice in St. Paul, starting at the Ramsey County Public Defender’s Office and continued his litigation practice at Dudley & Smith; O’Neill Grills & O’Neill; and Johnson Provo-Peterson O’Neill. Michael has been a partner with Martin & Squires, P.A., since 2010.

Outside of the practice of law, Michael’s legal pro bono activities include serving Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (“SMRLS”) as a Board Member and Chair of the Annual Lawyers on Ice Hockey Fundraiser Event at the Xcel Energy Center, since 1999. This hockey fundraising event has been a great partnership of attorneys and the Minnesota Wild and it annually raises awareness and thousands of dollars for SMRLS.
